This poor woman is in her mid-forties and is completely brain dead. The only reason she's still alive is the feeding and hydration tubes she has had in her until recently. He husband (who just happens to have kids with his long time girlfriend) has fought and fought to have these tubes removed, saying it's Terri's wish, without much hard proof. The rest of her family is fighting to have the tubes put back in; even Governor Bush (FL) and several members of Congress have jumped on the bandwagon to replace the tubes.
I want to know why this is such a big deal. I understand the concept of this woman's right to life and everything, but really, who is benefitting from her staying alive? Certainly not her. She cannot function as a normal human being; she's been in hospice care for the last 15 years. Honestly, I think her mother and the rest of that side of Terri's family need to just stop being so selfish and let the poor woman go.
In a recent press conference Terri Schiavo's mother appealed to other mothers and fathers to think about what they would want for their kids in this situation and then call their congressmen to help her. As a parent I did think about it, and I came to this conclusion: I wouldn't want this life for my child. I would have had those tubes removed when they first made the declaration of brain inactivity. As a parent you want what's best for your child; this is what's best for Terri Schiavo.

The Question of Creation

No, not that creation.
The question of the day, ladies and gentlemen, is this: Why did I create this blog in the first place? The answer to that is quite simple really: I have no idea. I just woke up this morning and thought to myself, hey - why not start a blog. And here we are. This thing will probably end up being some cross between a diary and sounding board and will most likely bore the pants off anyone attempting to read it. (Consider yourself warned.) Then again, it could be the start of some long-awaited published book (doubtful).
Why does anyone create a blog? To voice political opinions that no one else will listen to? To rag on the other teenaged girls or guys in their highschool? Who cares? If you want to read these things, read them. If not, don't bother. It's like the off button on your remote control or your stereo: if you don't like it, don't watch. Or listen. Or read. Again, pretty simple.
By the way, I can not guarantee I won't say anything to offend anyone. I'm female, I'm southern, I'm human. I can promise to do my best not to hurt or offend, but that's the best I can offer. Again, if you don't like it, don't read it. I didn't do this for you; I did it for me.
Oh, one other thing: if you do read something here that you agree or disagree with, please don't hesitate to reply here. I enjoy a good debate as much as the next person, and I love proving people wrong, or at least trying to. However, if you try to use this site as a way to bash someone else just because you're a nasty, vile human being, think twice about it and then think again.
That's about it. Have a blast at your own discretion. --Jen
